Plantar Warts

Plantar Wart - Cause - Treatment

What are Plantar Warts?

Warts or “Verrucae” are frequently occurring skin lesions occurring in children and to a lesser extent adults. They may appear dark brown in colour with red pin points in the centre. They are often covered by surrounding callus or hard skin and are frequently misdiagnosed as corns.

Cause

Warts are a virus and as such are easily transferable. If you have a wart you may have contracted it from any number of places such as swimming pools or gyms. Any place that has communal areas and involves water and barefoot may pose a risk.
When to treat
Warts generally resolve spontaneously within 6 months in children but can persist longer in adults. If plantar warts are painful, spreading or increasing in size and interfering with usual activity, then treatment is probably indicated.

How do we treat them?

Treatment comes in many forms but evidence suggests that topical wart paints and preparations are the best first line of treatment. This in combination with correct diagnosis and treatment from one of our podiatrists will ensure your feet are back to being ‘wart free’ in no time.New Paragraph
