Footcare for Seniors
Foot problems are especially common in older people
Caring for your feet can become increasingly difficult as we age.
Tips for maintaining healthy feet include.
- Regularly inspecting your feet
- Using a mild soap to wash your feet and drying thoroughly, especially between your toes
- Applying a lotion such as Sorbolene cream for dry or cracked skin; your podiatrist may recommend a more specialised product for more problematic skin conditions
- Wearing properly fitted shoes with firm heel counters for added support and stability
- Wearing clean socks, cotton or wool is best; avoid socks with a high nylon content
- Trimming toenails regularly, following the natural shape of your toe and never cutting down the sides
Most importantly, see your podiatrist regularly if you are unable to manage any of these tasks easily.
After all, feet are for life.
