Achilles Tendinopathy

Achilles Tendinopathy is a painful condition that results from overuse of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon attaches the calf muscle to the back of the heel bone. Whilst it is a common sporting injury, it can affect people that are not involved in sport.

Causes:


Achilles Tendinopathy is caused by excessive or repetitive strain on the Achillies tendon.

Common causes include:

  • high-impact sports or activities that involve running and jumpingr
  • tight calf muscle groups
  • Arthritis
  • weight
  • repetitive work environments



Signs & Symptoms:


  • pain in Achilles tendon
  • pain in the back of the heel
  • difficulty walking/during activity due to pain
  • swelling, tenderness, and or thickening of the Achilles tendon


Treatment:


Achilles tendinopathy treatment aims is to improve the structure of the tendon and prevent further injury.
